Peter Penning

With more than 30 years of global environmental sustainability experience, Peter specializes in water projects including stewardship, security, circularity, agriculture, and ecosystem services. Peter has assisted multinational clients in the food, beverage, mining, and manufacturing sectors as well as non-governmental organizations with complex issues by facilitating strategy development, designing effective implementation programs, and solving complex issues using deep analysis and rigorous decision-making processes. Peter’s combination of education and experience is perfectly aligned to assist his clients with critical decision-making and the development of a business case for sustainability. Clients value his language abilities and interpersonal skills in supporting open and transparent dialog among project stakeholders.

Peter started his career as a process engineer and manager in manufacturing engineering plastics, PET film, and petrochemicals for ICI in Holland and England. After a five-year assignment in Hong Kong and Malaysia where he designed, built, and managed electrochemical processing plants, he returned to Europe to undertake a role as a consultant. Peter was a major shareholder of BECO Institute for Sustainable Business in Cape Town (South Africa), President and CEO of Inogen Environmental Alliance, and is currently on the board of Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (SPEA – the Portuguese Society for the Protection of Birds).
